Best USB-C Hub for Your Setup: Which One Should You Buy?

"Best USB-C hub" isn't really one product — it depends entirely on what you're plugging in. A hub built for maximum ports is a poor fit if what you actually need is an external display, and vice versa. Here's how to match the hub to the job.

Best for maximum ports and everyday multitasking

If your laptop only has one or two USB-C ports and you're constantly juggling a mouse, keyboard, flash drive, and external drive, you want raw port count over anything else.

USB 3.0 Hub 7-Port SuperSpeed Multiport Adapter

USB 3.0 Hub — 7-Port SuperSpeed Powered Multiport Adapter, S$9.00, gives you 5 USB ports (1x USB 3.0 at 5Gbps, 4x USB 2.0) off a single 2-in-1 USB-C/USB-A connector that works on almost any host. It's a data hub only — no video output — so it's the right pick when ports are the bottleneck, not screens.

Best for adding an external display

If you need to plug into a monitor, TV, or projector and don't need a pile of extra USB ports, a compact AV hub is the better fit.

USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter Hub

USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter Hub, S$6.00 (Silver or Black), adds 4K HDMI (up to 30Hz) plus one USB 3.0 port and USB-C Power Delivery passthrough, so you can charge while it's in use. Works with any USB-C port that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode — check your laptop's spec sheet if you're not sure, since some budget USB-C ports are data-only.

Best for Nintendo Switch TV mode

The same AV multiport hub above doubles as a compact TV-mode dock for Switch: HDMI out to the TV, USB-C Power Delivery passthrough so it charges while docked. You don't need a bulky official dock if all you want is TV output and charging.

Best if you only need video out, nothing else

If a hub is overkill and you just need to get a single USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 laptop or phone onto an external display with nothing else attached, skip the hub entirely.

DigiStoreSG USB-C to HDMI 4K Adapter

Our USB-C to HDMI 4K Adapter, S$9.99, is a single-purpose dongle: USB-C in, HDMI out, up to 4K @ 30Hz, nothing else to carry.

Best if you need wireless, not more ports

None of the above add Bluetooth. If your PC or older laptop simply has no Bluetooth at all, the fix isn't a hub, it's a dedicated dongle.

Bluetooth 5.0 Wireless USB Dongle Adapter

Our Bluetooth 5.0 Wireless USB Dongle, S$14.99, plugs into a free USB port and adds Bluetooth pairing for a wireless mouse, keyboard, speaker or headphones, plug and play on most systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a USB-C hub with a USB-A laptop?

The 7-Port SuperSpeed Hub has a 2-in-1 connector that works with either USB-C or USB-A hosts directly. The AV Multiport Hub and the HDMI adapter are USB-C only — you'd need a separate USB-C to USB-A adapter to use them on an older USB-A-only laptop. The Bluetooth dongle works on any USB-A port regardless of host type.

Will any of these charge my laptop while I use them?

The AV Multiport Hub has USB-C Power Delivery passthrough, so you can connect a charger to it and power your laptop while it's plugged in. The 7-Port hub accepts USB-C power input for running multiple drives, but it's for powering the hub itself, not laptop charging. The HDMI-only adapter and the Bluetooth dongle have no power passthrough.

Why does my external display only run at 30Hz, not 60Hz?

The compact AV Multiport Hub and the standalone HDMI adapter are both built for 4K at 30Hz. If you specifically need 4K at 60Hz, you'd need a different adapter built for that higher bandwidth — message us if that's what you're after and we'll point you to the right option.

Does my laptop's USB-C port definitely support video output?

Not always — some USB-C ports are data and charging only. Check your laptop's spec sheet for "DisplayPort Alt Mode" or "USB-C video output" support, or send us your exact model and we'll confirm before you buy.

Do I need a driver for the Bluetooth dongle?

Most systems install the driver automatically when it's plugged in. If prompted, the included driver software can be installed manually.
